Fabian Matej – Landscape

Matej Fabián was born on June 23, 1979, in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (2005–2011), completing his diploma cycle titled Predator in the IV. atelier of Professor Ivan Csudai. Since 2011, he has been pursuing a PhD at the Drawing Cabinet under the guidance of Doc. Stanislav Buban. Fabián works in painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation. His work often explores complex social, political, and ecological themes, employing various techniques and materials, including acrylics, pencils, inks, and canvas stitching. His series STRATEGICON was created as a response to the invasion of Ukraine, examining the dynamics of history and its meanings. Fabián has been a finalist for the Painting of the Year award in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, winning second place in 2014. He was also nominated for the Henkel Art Award in 2010. His works have been exhibited in galleries and museums in Slovakia and abroad, including Kunsthalle Bratislava, SOGA Art Auction House in Bratislava, and the Berlínsky Model Gallery in Prague. His works have also been featured in international exhibitions, such as No Borders – Appeal to Heaven in Prague in 2011.
