About the author:

He was born in 1944 in Zagreb. He is a self-taught painter. He has been exhibiting independently since 1989. He lives and works in Ptuj. He is a member of the Association of Slovenian Fine Artists. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Slovenia. In the Slovenian art scene, he is a distinctly original artistic personality.

His painting is marked by three key cycles. The watercolor cycle “Only Play is Possible” from 2003 clearly reveals the painter’s inclination towards experimentation and experiencing art as a game. During this period, he discovered the circle, ellipse, and spiral as fundamental symbols of his pictorial expression.

In the later cycle enigmatically titled “Possible, Possibly Not” (title inspired by the book of the same name by Robert Fulghum), he paints with acrylic on canvas and creates spatial installations. In this period, the circumference and circle become the exclusive motifs of his artistic interest.

The cycle “Possible – is possible” (with allusions to Orwell’s novel “1984”) brings painting with features of social engagement and utopian visions of life in a totalitarian system. The author virtuously plays with formal visual solutions on one hand and symbolic interpretations on the other.

The characteristic square format with an inscribed circle and asymmetrical center allows the painting to be rotated, which opens space for new associations and interpretations. This approach confirms his constant search for ambiguity and interactivity in the artwork.
