About the author:
She was born in 1956 in Skopje, Macedonia. She is a visual artist employed as a full professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Skopje, University of St. Cyril and Methodius Skopje, teaching subjects in fine arts. She graduated in 1984 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Skopje, in the class of Petar Mazev, and earned her master’s degree at CEU in Prague, Czech Republic. In 1996 she completed studies at the Faculty of Architecture in Skopje. She participates in significant group exhibitions such as the “White Nights” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, and recently (2016 and 2017) presents solo projects as a mentor for projects realized by students of the Faculty of Architecture: 2017 ENTER – 3D cardboard collage of Van Gogh’s room or “Guernica 3D” – a three-dimensional reproduction of Picasso’s Guernica (3D cardboard collage). For the past 20 years, she has used photography as a medium to express her views on certain issues, events, or problems that confuse her. Using her own photography in creating her collages, she attempts to convey her ideas and meanings beyond the image itself, thus creating new images with different context and meaning. In her works, Avramovska indirectly creates a “portrait of the environment” by depicting people, objects, or events, collaging them in various, unexpected ways that create multi-layered associations.
