Basic information and education
She was born on February 18, 1951 in Zagreb.
In 1974, she completed her studies in graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of Prof. Albert Kinert, and in 1976, she completed her postgraduate studies in “Graphic Expressions” with the same professor.
Training and foreign experiences
In 1984 and 1985, she received a scholarship from the French Government to specialize in graphics in Paris with Joëlle Serve.
She went on study trips to numerous countries such as Italy, Austria, Great Britain, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, China and the USA.
Exhibition work and awards
She has been exhibiting since 1972: she has participated in hundreds of collective and sixty solo exhibitions throughout Croatia and the world (a few examples: Zagreb, Split, Paris, Barcelona, London, Washington, etc.).
Her works are in many museums, galleries and private collections of domestic and international institutions.
Academic and organizational career
Since 1985, she has worked as a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb; she has advanced to: assistant professor (1987), associate professor (1991), full professor (1997).
She was the director of the Academy (1989–1990), vice-dean (1990–1992), and dean of the Academy (1995–1999), during which time significant infrastructure projects were implemented, such as the construction of the new ALU building.
Style and visual expression
Recognized as a painter and graphic artist with a strong expressionist charge, she creates drawings and graphics with motifs of people, animals in motion, flowers and nature.
She has created significant graphic maps such as The Shine of Heritage (1990) and Korida in collaboration with N. Fabria (1997).
Monography and professional recognition
The monograph “Dubravka Babić” by Vladimir Maleković was published in 1987 (Graphic Institute of Croatia).
She is considered the author of a unique and striking graphic expression and an important figure in classical artistic graphics in the contemporary context.
Decorations
For her contribution to culture and art, she has been awarded multiple decorations: the Order of the Croatian Dawn with the image of Marko Marulić, the Order of the Croatian Weave, and the Monument of Homeland Gratitude.
