Bakliža Darko – Portrait: Zlatko Makek

He was born in 1958 in Krapina. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, in the class of Professor Emeritus Đuro Seder. He is an assistant professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. His paintings have been exhibited in Croatia and abroad, and he has received numerous awards. He has created more than twenty scenographies for theatre. He also works as a writer and composer. His animated films include First Story (2002), Connection (2004), and Theory of Reflection (2006). He has presented films at more than forty festivals worldwide and has won 8 domestic and international awards. He is a member of HDLU. He is a painter of quick and impulsive strokes, with expressive marks that record and follow inner impulses and rhythms; he is an excellent draftsman who balances between intuitive and analytical recording, lyrical gestures, and deliberate proportions.
