Buban is one of the most significant Slovak painter personalities of the 1980s. The first period of his work is associated with neo-expressionist stylization of new painting, later in the late 1980s approaching an abstract expression, which culminates in a cycle of black-and-white paintings. Currently, his painterly expression is a bittersweet response to the world around us, presented through old techniques and ideas.
