About the author:
He was born in 1961 in Sečovce, Slovakia. He graduated from the Department of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (1980-1986). He is currently active as a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He has exhibited solo and in group exhibitions in Slovakia, the National Gallery in Skopje, Macedonia; the National Portrait Gallery in London, England; Wilmington, USA; Frankfurt, Germany. He is the recipient of the first prize “Towards of culture and solidarity” in Limassol, Cyprus. He is a member of the Slovak Association of Visual Artists. He lives in Bratislava.
Buban is one of the most significant Slovak painting personalities of the 1980s. The first period of his work is associated with a neo-expressionist stylization of new painting, which towards the end of the 1980s approached an abstract expression, culminating in a cycle of black-and-white paintings. Currently, his painting expression is a saccharine response to the world around us, presented through old techniques and ideas.
