Forbici Jernej – Not Even the Sun Shines Since She Left

He was born in 1980 in Maribor. In 1999/2000 he studied painting at the School of Visual Arts in Ljubljana in the class of Professor Darko Slavc. In 2000, he was accepted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he graduated in 2005. He completed postgraduate studies under Professor Carlo di Raco. He lives and works in Venice, Vicenza, Ptuj, and Berlin.

Since his student days, he has been painting vast landscapes that evoke associations with biblical themes. Presented in a pronounced perspective and aerial view, the boundless plains meander and disappear into infinity. Close in perspective to Venetian Mannerism of the 16th century, and in color to Northern New Expressionism, his painting is contemporary and cautionary, addressing the universal through local themes.
