Liao Zhanghong – Memory of the Sea

She was born in 1965 in Guangzhou, China, and since 1995 has lived and worked in the Netherlands, in Vlaardingen. She graduated from the Manchester School of Art, United Kingdom, in 1995. She has been a member of the renowned Pulchri Studio – an art organization in The Hague – since 1999, a member of Kunstgebouw Zuid Nederland, Kunstwerkt in Schiedam, and the artistic collective “Collectief De 13e Maand” from Rotterdam. Very versatile, she has worked in various jobs and roles related to art and its teaching, teaching Chinese calligraphy and painting. She is a teacher and team leader in the Leentjebeur project in Vlaardingen, a member of numerous art commissions, and curator of the “China Tentoonstelling” project at Pulchri Studio and the “China” project at Stichting Kunstwerkt in Pand Paulusu in the Netherlands. She has taught art at Hua Nan Shi Fang University in Guangzhou, China, and has engaged in design, photography, and dance, which is often part of her artistic performances. She has studied and held residencies in Spain (Valparaiso Foundation), Ireland (Monaghan), and participated in numerous symposia in Uganda, Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, and Poland. She has received several awards for her work. She is a multidisciplinary artist, employing all visual media in her practice, from traditional painting and sketch diaries to video, installations, and performance art. She approaches each new theme with creative seriousness, selecting a new, appropriate medium that best expresses it.
