About the author:He was born in Mauritius in 1962. He graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in the former Soviet Union (USSR). Besides painting, he works as a lecturer at MGI School of Fine Arts, and in 2002 he joined the Mahatma Gandhi Institute where he also serves as a professor of fine arts. In 2003, together with a group of artist friends, he founded the “pARTage” art organization with the aim of promoting contemporary art in Mauritius. As an artist, he expresses himself in various visual media including video, installation, photography, painting, and performance. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and artist residencies worldwide. In his work, Luchoomun interrogates cultural and social phenomena: tradition, mythology, religion, politics, and socio-social behaviors, exploring the conditioning of the relationship between man and his environment.
