Matko Vekić – Apartment

He was born in 1970 in Zagreb, Croatia. He graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of prof. emeritus Đuro Seder. From 1996 to 1999, he worked as a drawing and painting teacher at the School of Applied Arts and Design in Zagreb, and from 1999 to 2003 he freelance taught painting as an assistant, then as a docent at the Academy of Fine Arts in Široki Brijeg at the University of Mostar (BiH). Since 2007, he has been a docent at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts. So far, he has organized 28 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad, in Čakovec, Varaždin, Zadar, Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Freiburg (Germany), Sarajevo (BiH), Graz, London, Istanbul, Luxembourg, and Paris. He is the recipient of about ten awards and recognitions. In addition to texts by eminent visual arts experts published in professional journals, a monographic book by author P. Prelog has been published about him. He has traveled extensively for study (India, Turkey, Japan, …) and has participated in many art colonies and workshops. His works are held in many museums and galleries such as the Modern Gallery in Zagreb, Gallery of Fine Arts in Split, among others. This year, he represents Croatian art at the Venice Biennale.

He is a member of HDLU (Croatian Association of Artists). He lives and works in Zagreb.
