Mazoy Ana – Bird on the Ladder

The Spanish artist was born in 1954 in Lugo. She graduated in painting from the Bellas Artes de San Fernando Academy. She holds a doctorate in painting and is a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid. In the early 1980s, she exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions. She presents her works across Europe and South America. She expresses herself in almost all visual media, including painting, sculpture, book-object, and performance. She rounds off her artistic work with teaching activities, combining them with exhibitions, seminars, and publications.

In the medium of painting, Ana experiments with color and paper; painting is for her a place to explore material action. She does not confine her affinities to the importance of the process itself but filters reflections on the meaning of time and space through her works, viewing them as important categories that define us. She expresses herself through metaphors, revealing ambiguity through the very titles of her paintings. Her art is imbued with symbolism and fascination with ancient cultures. The collage technique and use of various materials, mostly found in nature, further emphasize her symbolic frozen narrative.
