Mazoy Ana – Escaladacruz

The Spanish artist was born in 1954 in Lugo. She graduated in painting from the Bellas Artes de San Fernando Academy. She holds a doctorate in painting and is a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid. In the early 1980s, she exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions. She presents her works throughout Europe and South America. She expresses herself in almost all visual media including painting, sculpture, book-objects, and performance. She complements her artistic work with teaching, combining it with exhibitions, seminars, and publications.

In the medium of painting, Ana experiments with color and paper; for her, painting is a place to question material action. Her affinities are not restricted to the importance of the process itself, but through her works she filters reflections on the meaning of time and space as important categories that define us. She expresses herself using metaphors, revealing ambiguity in the very titles of her paintings. Her art is clothed in symbolism and fascination with ancient cultures. The collage technique, use of diverse materials often found in nature, further emphasize her symbolic frozen narrative.
