Mazoy Ana – HuElla and PiEL

The Spanish artist was born in 1954 in Lugo. She graduated in painting from the Bellas Artes de San Fernando Academy. She holds a doctorate in painting and is a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid. In the early 1980s, she exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions. She showcases her works throughout Europe and South America. She expresses herself in almost all visual media, including painting, sculpture, book-object, and performance. She complements her artistic work with teaching, combining it with exhibitions, seminars, and publications.

In the medium of painting, Ana experiments with color and paper; for her, painting is a place to explore material effects. Her affinities are not confined to the importance of the process itself; rather, her works filter reflections on the meaning of time and space as essential categories that define us. She expresses herself through metaphors, revealing ambiguity even in the titles of her paintings. Her art is imbued with symbolism and fascination with ancient cultures. Collage techniques and the use of various materials, often found in nature, further emphasize her symbolically paused narrative.
