About the author:
The Spanish artist was born in 1954 in Lugo. She graduated in painting from the Bellas Artes de San Fernando Academy. She holds a doctorate in painting and is a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid. In the early 1980s, she exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions. She presents her works throughout Europe and South America. She expresses herself in almost all visual media spanning painting, sculpture, book-objects, and performance. She complements her artistic work with teaching, combining it with exhibitions, seminars, and publications.
In the medium of painting, Ana experiments with color and paper; painting is for her a place to explore material action. Her affinities are not confined to the importance of the process itself; through her works, reflections on the significance of time and space as essential categories that define us are filtered. She expresses herself through metaphors, uncovering ambiguity in the very naming of her paintings. Her art is cloaked in symbolism and a fascination with ancient cultures. Collage technique, the use of various materials, most often found in nature, further emphasize her symbolic, suspended narrative.
