About the author:

The Spanish artist was born in 1954 in Lugo. She graduated in painting from the Bellas Artes de San Fernando Academy. She holds a doctorate in painting and is a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid. In the early 1980s, she exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions. She showcases her works throughout Europe and South America. She expresses herself in almost all visual media including painting, sculpture, artist’s books, objects, and performance. Her artistic work is complemented by her teaching activities, which she combines with exhibitions, seminars, and publications.

In the medium of painting, Ana experiments with color and paper; for her, painting is a place to explore material action. She does not limit her interest to the importance of the process itself but filters reflections on the meaning of time and space as significant categories that define us through her works. She expresses herself through metaphors, revealing ambiguity in the very titles of her paintings. Her art is imbued with symbolism and fascination with ancient cultures. The collage technique and the use of diverse materials, mostly found in nature, further emphasize her symbolic, suspended narrative.
