About the author:
Born in 1959 in Zagreb where he was also educated. He graduated from the Higher School of Textiles in clothing and textile design, and then enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb where he graduated under the class of Prof. Zlatko Kauzlarić Atač. He has been exhibiting consistently since 1985. He is employed as the chief painter in the painting workshop of the Zagreb Croatian National Theater. He gained particular attention with his scenography for the drama play “King Lear” (Brijuni, 2001). Since 2003, he has been an expert associate at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb.
Medvešek’s painting is characterized by portraits of the female figure that reference works of old masters, showing the closeness of his poetics with the arts of antiquity, the Renaissance, and Art Nouveau, infiltrating the medium of classical painting with all that has happened from modern times to the present. Recently, his painting has also embraced abstract forms of artistic expression reflected in the cycle “Omage Istri”.
