About the author:He was born in 1959 in Leskovac Toplički, Croatia. He graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of Professor Đuro Seder. He studied in Paris at the Cité Internationale des Arts. He participated in art colonies in Hungary, Italy, and about ten in Croatia. So far, he has held 20 solo exhibitions and participated in around a hundred group exhibitions, as well as in art colonies and symposiums. He lives and works in Zagreb as an independent artist. His artistic focus and distinctive expressive style are “psycho-emotional” portraits. The fundamental feature of this painting poetics is the unwavering belief that his painting process is a form and means of spiritual communication. For Modrica, painting is neither a search for mimesis nor the indication of unambiguous associations, but a systematic attempt to find a visual language that is almost impossible to translate into words.
