About the author:He was born in 1959 in Leskovac Toplički, Croatia. He graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, in the class of Professor Đuro Seder. He studied in Paris at the Cité internationale des Arts. He participated in art colonies in Hungary, Italy, and about ten in Croatia. To date, he has held 20 solo exhibitions and participated in about a hundred group exhibitions, and also takes part in art colonies and symposia. He lives and works in Zagreb as an independent artist. His artistic preoccupation and distinctive expression are “psychoemotional” portraits. The fundamental feature of this painterly poetics is the unwavering belief that his pictorial construction process is a form and aspect of spiritual communication. For Modrica, painting is neither the search for mimesis nor the indication of unambiguous associations but a systematic attempt to find a visual language that is almost impossible to convey in words.
