About the author:

He was born in 1951 in Zagreb. In 1977, he graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, majoring in comparative literature and art history. He completed his painting studies at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London in 1982 and earned his master’s degree at the renowned Royal College of Art in 1986. Living and working in three key locations—Zagreb, London, and Dubrovnik—Šibl has exhibited and participated in important group and solo exhibitions in his homeland and across Europe since 1982. Martyn Walsh selected him as a collaborator for the famous Pirelli calendar, and in the same year, his work was showcased at the international contemporary art fair at London’s Olympia Exhibition Hall as well as his first monographic exhibition in Zagreb. His creative potential has produced numerous drawing and painting cycles that spatially complement and merge into a large unconventional cycle. From 1982 to today, he has held sixty solo exhibitions and over twenty major group exhibitions worldwide. At a recently held exhibition-performance in Liverpool, the City of Culture for 2008, he had the honor of staging his exhibition performance accompanied by music and dancers. He is a member of HDLU and HZSU. He lives and works in Zagreb, London, and Dubrovnik.
