Šibl Duško – Figure III

He was born in 1951 in Zagreb. In 1977, he graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb with a degree in comparative literature and art history. He completed his painting studies at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London in 1982 and earned a master’s degree at the renowned Royal College of Art in 1986. Living and working in three key locations—Zagreb, London, and Dubrovnik—Šibl has been exhibiting and participating in important group and solo exhibitions in his homeland and across Europe since 1982. Martyn Walsh selected him as a collaborator for the prestigious Pirelli Calendar, and in the same year, his work was noticed at the international contemporary art fair at London’s Olympia Exhibition Hall as well as in his first monographic exhibition in Zagreb. His creative potential has generated numerous drawing and painting cycles that spatially complement and merge into a large unconventional cycle. From 1982 to today, he has organized sixty solo and more than twenty major group exhibitions worldwide. At a recent exhibition-performance in Liverpool, the cultural city for 2008, he had the honor of presenting his performance exhibition accompanied by music and dancers. He is a member of HDLU and HZSU. He lives and works in Zagreb, London, and Dubrovnik.
