Tatjana Hutinec – From the Whirlwind

Tatjana was born in Germany in 1965, as a Croatian national. She spent her childhood in Zagreb where she completed the School of Applied Arts and Design, majoring in textile and fashion design, and the Faculty of Technology. In 1990s she moved to Toronto, where she still lives and works as a painter, sculptor and designer, as well as one of the leading theatre, film and TV costume designers. She has exhibited her works in numerous exhibitions in Croatia and Canada. She specialised in the medium of ceramics in the Atelier of Ana Hutinec. Although versatile in her artistic expressions, Taljana keeps exploring new ideas, concepts and techniques, creating in oil, acrylic, pencil, coal, ceramics, mixed media sculpture, silk painting and wearable art and working with Biblical themes, Vučedol culture, Amazon Indian ethnology, Freudian psychology, Einstein’s fallacy about the separation of Eastern philosophies. In the past few years she has been presenting her work in Heliconian Hall in Toronto, as well as numerous group exhibitions in Croatia, where she received an honorary award at the Third International Triennial of small ceramics in Zagreb. The city of Toronto has bought several of her works for public spaces. Her work has been included in Contemporary Ceramics in Croatia by M. Baričević. She is a member of the Propeller Gallery, Toronto.
