Varzandeh Alireza – Urban Atmosphere

Alireza Varzandeh was born in Shiraz (Iran) on June 26, 1963. From 1981 to 1985, he studied design at the University of Tehran, department of illustration. He gained additional knowledge by specializing at the Persian School of Ceramics (for interiors and exteriors) from 1980 to 1988. From 1987 to 1992, he specialized in graphics and painting at the College of Art and Design in Cologne, where he worked with Prof. Lewardowski and Prof. K. Marx. In 1992, he graduated as a master student (specialist) under Prof. K. Marx. Today, he lives in Cologne and works as a freelance artist. From the 1990s until today, he has held numerous solo and group exhibitions mainly in Germany. His work is infused with his own experience of East and West, which he presents with an undisguised strong critique. The figures in his paintings are ordinary people, part of his everyday life, but in Alireza’s work they transcend into commonplaces, symbols of character, relationships, in each one of us.
