Vekić Matko – Fish 1

He was born in 1970 in Zagreb, Croatia. He graduated painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of Prof. Emeritus Đuro Seder. From 1996 to 1999, he worked as a drawing and painting teacher at the School of Applied Arts and Design in Zagreb, and from 1999 to 2003 he taught painting on a freelance basis as an assistant, then as a docent at the Academy of Fine Arts in Široki Brijeg at the University of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Since 2007, he has been a docent at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts. To date, he has held 28 solo exhibitions and exhibited at numerous group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad, in Čakovec, Varaždin, Zadar, Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Freiburg (Germany), Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Graz, London, Istanbul, Luxembourg, Paris. He is a recipient of about ten awards and recognitions. In addition to texts by eminent art experts published in professional journals, a monographic book by author P. Prelog has also been published about him. He has been on many study trips (India, Turkey, Japan, …) and participated in many artist residencies and workshops. His works are held in many museums and galleries such as the Modern Gallery in Zagreb, Gallery of Fine Arts in Split, … This year he represents Croatian art at the Venice Biennale.

He is a member of HDLU. He lives and works in Zagreb.
